Keeping the weeds away from natural light will eventually kill them off. This can be achieved by covering them in a thick plastic sheet or heavy-duty cardboard, weighed down with mulch. Alternatively, remove both ends of a standard tin can and place it directly over a clump of weeds, filling the can with white vinegar or essential oil (we suggest cinnamon or clove oil).
The tin can trick is ideal for weeds surrounded by flowers or other vegetation. If the cardboard isn’t practical, rolled-up newspapers under the mulch will work just as well.
Salt is especially effective on weeds, particularly those that weave their way up through patio tiles or block paving at your Camberley property. If you cover them with standard table salt – be generous with the amounts – they’ll die off fairly quickly. The salt can also be mixed into a paste with white vinegar, which you can then spread over the weeds. Once dry, a small trowel is ideal for removing them.
